Hard Rock Café, Andheri

Our design for this location, in the neighborhood of west Mumbai opposite the famous Bollywood film studios takes its cue from the young, creative and upwardly mobile clientele who live and work in that area.

The spatial layout has two large 17ft high volumes interconnected by a lower scaled passage. The bar, stage and retail in one volume and the restaurant dining in the other are linked by an intermediate connector with lounge and restaurant seating as well as a central communal table. The progression of space on entry is via the rock shop into the voluminous bar lounge area and then via passage into the restaurant to the north.

A metal mesh grid envelopes the entire shell and provides an apt backdrop to the memorabilia mounted on it while still admitting daylight via the large floor to ceiling windows.

The material palette is a combination of industrial chic and natural earth tones. The metal mesh envelope creates a stage like theatrical backdrop while warmer elements such as exposed brick walls painted a deep blue, a mock padded fabric wallpaper and ribbed wood create the warmth and familiarity of a family restaurant. The restaurant chairs and tables are constructed in teak wood and the large expanses of flooring are also in a warm wooden finish.

The Industrial and theatrical nature of the space references film studios in the neighborhood while the memorabilia dressed in velvet, black lacquered gilded frames, draped lush blue velvet curtains and padded leather on the seating bring in the irreverent nature of the iconic Hard Rock Brand.
